Malachi

Have begun a new series on the book of Malachi for the Sunday morning church services. Malachi is a book that was written to a group of people who were letting God down badly. Even although God was being faithful to his side of the agreement, (in looking out for the people), the people were bored with their religion and not exactly very conscientious or caring about it.

Enter Malachi with what God thinks about that.....OUCH!!

Visit from Nashville

As can be seen from the entries underneath we were pleased to have a group of folks come over from the Nashville area and visit us here in Golspie. It was an encouraging visit and a real pleasure to mix with folks from that part of the 'States'.

Graham Stoner & Vanessa Batts

Also in Golspie this week were Graham Stoner and Vanessa Batts(Gospel Hymn Sing). Both these musicains sang individually to differnt audiences throughout the week their company and musical talent were appreciated by all. Check out Graham's web site here and find out a little more about Vanessa here

Sunday Meetings

Sunday saw two visiting preachers to our church in Golspie. One who is well known to us and the other here for the first time. The Rev Ian Sears spoke to us in the morning service about the real humanity of Christ, as seen in the account of the death of Lazarus, but then also conrasted that real humanity with his heavenly power as evidenced by the resurrection of Lazarus.

The evening service was ably taken by Mr Jeff Skinner and he spoke clearly about the parable of the 'lost son', not concentrating so much on the younger brother but rather with the elder one.

We appriciated the ministry of both these men

Southern Gospel Hymn Sing

Wednesday afternoon was also the day for the Southern Gospel Hymn Sing. We were very happy to welcome both Kathy Chiavola and Vanessa Batts to sing for us and also for ourselves to take part. Kathy is a well known bluegrass singer from Nashville and is currently on a European tour. Vanessa, who also lives in the Nashville area, had a link to the people of Golspie without even knowing it. She studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and during that time met Jennifer Stewart of Fountain Road.

The afternoon was very well received by both singers and listeners and thanks too must go to the guys who made up Kathy's band.

Johnathan Rogers

On Wednesday past we were very pleased to welcome, to our midweek meeting, freelance writer Mr Johnathan Rogers of Nashville, Tennessee. Johnathan spoke on "imagination and expectancy of faith" and related his talk to the C S Lewis book, "The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe". It was a meeting in which we were also pleased to have a number of visitors from the neighbouring villages joinging with us.

Click on the picture to find out a little bit more about Johnathan.
