Last Sunday the Gaelic language was to be heard for the first time in many a long years from within the walls of the Free Church of Scotland in Golspie. The Rev Kenny MacDonald led the worship at a special service in the afternoon and people from far and near attended, approximately 50 in total. Afterwards, a cup of tea was enjoyed and hopefully a few conversations not only about the Gaelic language but also the message which Kenny gave.
The singing was another feature that was enjoyed and a little English was also employed to help any non Gaelic speakers.
Hopefully this service is one which may be repeated in the near future.

It was a pleasure to have 'An La' (BBC Alba - Mhari and Debbie) visiting Golspie FC both yesterday and today. This came about due to a letter written by Rev Kenny MacDonald, to the church's monthly magazine (Monthly Record), regarding the plight of the church in the Highlands. He was interviewed about his letter and then some filming was done of the Golspie Craft Group and then the next day at the Soup and Sing lunch held in the church hall. (parent/carer & toddlers)
The news programme An La will be covering the story on this evenings news programme at 8pm. (BBC ALBA) It can also be viewed on An La's i player tomorrow as well.

There was a request from the RNLI for churches to give support to them on the 150th anniversary of their first boat in Scotland at Fraserburgh. The churches in both Golspie and Brora recognised this and made their theme for the day a sea faring one. Prayers were made for those involved and for those who had lost loved ones in the past, especially those from the Fraserburgh area. A collection was also taken at the end of each service.
The need to be saved by someone is also a message central to the bibles teaching, that Jesus Christ came into the world in order to save and bring life! (John 3:16)

It has been great to have Kenny and Rita (MacDonald) moving into Golspie and worshipping with the Golspie congregation. Also a real bonus is their willingness to be involved - Kenny especially on the preaching front. From October Kenny will be alternating (preaching DV) between the Brora and Golspie Congregations.

Yesterday was the Fun Day & BBQ for the Golspie, Brora, and Helmsdale churches. It was also good to have visitors from as far away as Inverness, Morayshire, Central Belt and Australia. The weather held allowing everyone to stay outdoors in the sun. The usual bouncy castle, trampoline, and other games were well used. In all it was a very enjoyable day with a laid back atmosphere.

The annual congregational meeting was held last night and included the usual reports of the church activities throughout last year. The financial report was also given.
The main part of the evening however was listening to, and participating in, a presentation by Mr Andrew McNair (Covell Mathews) with regards to our church buildings and how we regard them.
The reason for this discussion is the knowledge that work will soon have to be done on the floor of the building to deal with woodworm. Because of this the question is asked, 'would it be worthwhile looking at the layout or our buildings and seeing if they could be still further improved upon to help meet the needs of present day living?
Thanks go to Mr McNair for his help in this process.
